Cowell Residence

Annemarie Hall Design collaborated with the Cowell family to integrate an early California style adobe home with a drought tolerant garden oasis. The landscape features a low water-use plant palette that includes a profusion of California natives, flowering perennials, and ornamental grasses. Fruiting trees such as persimmon, pomegranate and Olive, anchor the courtyards and frame the hillside views. Lawn is absent, replaced with decomposed granite courtyards, a bocce ball court and entertaining spaces. The design creates the feeling that the house is built in the middle of an ancient Olive orchard, surrounded by a garden that has evolved over many years. The completed outdoor rooms are free flowing, soothed by the gentle sound of water and sweet scent of jasmine.

This home and garden has been published in Gardening & Deck Design Magazine and recently received  the Residential Design Award through the Southern California Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
